Loris Karius was at fault for two of Real Madrid’s goals in the 3-1 Champions League final
defeat. A tearful and devastated Loris Karius is seen in pictures below as he approaches the Liverpool end to apologise for his two blunders vs. Real Madrid.
The first of Loris Karius’ two howlers came in the 31st minute during the match as Karim Benzema scored one of the most bizarre goals in Champions League history. In an extraordinary series of events with the game goalless and Liverpool still reeling from injury to Mohamed Salah, German Loris Karius had attempted to under-arm the ball to Dejan Lovren with Karim Benzema in close proximity. Karius was under no pressure whatsoever after collecting Toni Kroos’ lofted through-ball just inside his own area.
The decision proved calamitous as Benzema blocked the throw with an out-stretched foot, diverting the ball into the empty net. It didn’t end there, however. Loris Karius’ evening went from bad to worse as Gareth Bale‘s long-range strike slipped through his fingers to give Real Madrid a two-goal buffer with than five minutes to go.
Reacting to the two errors, BT Sport pundit Frank Lampard said the two errors would live with goalkeeper for the rest of his life. “On a human level you feel sorry for him,” said Lampard. “But mistakes at this level shouldn’t be happening.” “You do feel sorry for him,” said Rio Ferdinand. “I’m concerned for his future he needs people around him to comfort him.” Below are more photos of German footballer, Loris, in floods of tears at the end of the game.
