‘Lagos traffic and hospital’s lack of oxygen caused my friend’s death’ – Journalist narrates how he lost his friend

A bereaved Nigerian journalist identified as Sam Omatseye has taken to his Facebook timeline to narrate how he lost a friend so dear to him because of Lagos traffic and a hospital’s lack of oxygen. According to Sam, his friend was first rushed to a nearby Missionary hospital who further redirected them to the General hospital, however before they could get to the hospital after getting stuck in Lagos traffic, his dear friend died.

"I lost someone dear recently and it happened because the hospital nearby did not have oxygen. This is a missionary hospital. When the fellow was rushed there in a state of emergency, he was told they could do nothing and they should take him to the General hospital. Before his folks took him through the messy traffic of Lagos from Akowonjo area, he was designated BID – brought in dead. I thought how sad. How could any hospital be allowed to operate that did not have the basic life-saving facility? Of course, if someone in the well-heeled class had such emergency, he would be flown to London or Germany or Israel on a plane outfitted with oxygen equipment. The story of this fellow who died is the story between Lazarus and the rich man. The Lazarus always lose.

This report is coming few months after Nollywood diva, Omotola Jalade Ekehinde appealed to Nigerians to always make way when they see an ambulance.
The mother of four took to her Instagram account, to urge motorists to make way as ambulances sometimes carry critically ill people. She wrote:

"Dear people, please if you see an ambulance trying to make a head way, please , please , please, make way or pack so they can pass! They are MOST times carrying CRITICALLY ILL people and Every second counts. If you’re walking or on a bike, forewarn others ahead to move aside. Its not a time to “Drag road ” or act complacent. Please share this message , it can save someone
