It was all over the news last week that the operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, stormed Club 57 in Ikoyi area of Lagos to arrest suspected fraudsters and confiscate exotic cars, the club has released statement denying that those arrested were their customers. Club 57 who also shared some of their achievements in recent times, said that their building which is located in the heart of Ikoyi, has a rich history of hosting the best parties and gatherings and has been used as a club for over 50 years.

On Thursday last week, it was reported that the operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Lagos Zonal office, arrested over 12 suspected internet fraudsters in the Ikoyi area of Lagos. The agency confirmed the raid in a statement on its Facebook page. It said: “EFCC operatives stormed the popular Club 57 on Awolowo Way, where the suspected “yahoo yahoo boys” were rounded up, following intelligence report. “While some of the suspects abandoned their exotic cars to avoid arrest, some others put up resistance, thereby turning the environment into a war-like zone of sorts. “However, a total 10 cars were recovered from the suspects during the raid that lasted about three hours. “The suspects will soon be charged to court when investigations are concluded”. Noble Igwe who welcomed the Friday night raid, ignited a commotion on social media on Saturday after he said the anti-graft office should do more to curb financial crimes in some business sectors he personally identified and marked as rife with criminality. Record label, real estate, auto dealers, “are major 419/fraud fronts in Nigeria,” Mr Igwe said in a Twitter update at 11:20 p.m. He urged the EFCC to “station” attendants at nightclubs in exquisite Lekki and Victoria Island neighbourhoods in Lagos. Online and offline stores along the famous Admiralty Way in Lekki “are used for money laundering”, as well as similar stores off Fola Osibo Road, Mr Igwe said.
